The 10 Best Jamie XX Tracks – A Definitive Ranking
Few producers have captured the soul of modern UK dance music quite like Jamie xx. The South London artist, born Jamie Smith, spent years refining a sound that draws from UK garage, house, grime, disco and rave, filtering it through a distinctly melancholic British lens that sets him apart from almost everyone working in the same space.
Both his solo studio albums, In Colour (2015) and In Waves (2024) were released to critical acclaim and he has remixed a whole host of artists, including his bandmates from The xx, to great effect. We’ve gone back through his catalogue to pick out the highlights. Here’s our definitive ranking of the 10 best Jamie xx tracks, counting down to number one.
10. Jamie xx ft. Kelsey Lu, John Glacier, Panda Bear – Daffodil
The standout from his 2024 album In Waves, it takes a few listens to take hold of you but once it does you can’t get it out of your head.
9. Jamie xx – Dream Night
The most recent release on the list, coming in 2025, this took many fans back to his In Colour era. An atmospheric track that rewards repeated listens and has flown under the radar somewhat.
8. Jamie xx ft. Romy – Loud Places
The most accessible track on the list, and one that crossed over into mainstream success. Romy’s vocals are brilliant as always and this remains one of the most-streamed tracks in his catalogue.
7. Gil Scott-Heron & Jamie xx – NY Is Killing Me
Originally a Gil Scott-Heron track from his 2010 album I’m New Here, Jamie xx’s rework appeared on Scott-Heron’s companion album We’re New Here in 2011 and introduced a generation of electronic music fans to the late poet and musician. It remains one of the most celebrated moments of his early career and helped establish him as a separate entity to the xx.
6. The xx – Reconsider (Jamie xx Edit)
This edit of the original xx track strips everything back and rebuilds it into something new and more intimate. One to blast in your headphones rather than the club.
5. Jamie xx – Far Nearer
His debut solo single, released in 2011, this introduced his signature sound to the world, featuring a hypnotic vocal sample and Caribbean style steel pan drums, this remains a cult favourite for fans.
4. Jamie xx ft. Romy – Seesaw
A collaboration with xx bandmates, Romy and Oliver Sim, Seesaw is restrained, emotional and precise. The vocals are haunting and make this a standout from the mercury prize nominated album In Colour.
3. Jamie xx – Gosh
Gosh is much more dancefloor ready than many of it’s In Colour counterparts. With a more aggressive build up and vocal sample, it remains a weapon in any club or festival set.
2. Jamie xx – All Under One Roof Raving
It’s hard to think of a track that celebrates UK rave culture more overtly than this. Featuring a variety of interview clips championing the culture, this track was released in 2014 but still feels as fresh as ever.
1. The xx – On Hold (Jamie xx Remix)
With so much competition, it wasn’t easy to choose a number one, but this feels the most natural winner. The remix that crystallised everything Jamie xx does best, creating emotion from unexpected places, building tension, and delivering a payoff that remains timeless every time you hear it.
